Weekday Weddings
The busiest wedding day of the year so far - 2/22/22 was a TUESDAY! A middle-of-the-week, need-to-work-the-following-day weekday. Was it the special day (2/22/22) that made a Tuesday so desirable? Maybe. Are more people getting married on weekdays than ever before? For sure.
Why? What are the benefits (or downsides) to having a weekday wedding? Take a look at some of our thoughts about why a weekday wedding can be a total hit, or a major miss.
BENEFIT: A weekday wedding will often give you more vendor availability. Since most weddings happen on weekends, you can secure your favorite vendors without having to rush to make decisions.
DOWNSIDE: Weekday traffic! If you're getting married in the afternoon on a weekday, you and your guests will have to deal with rush hour traffic. Anywhere between 3pm-7pm can lead to longer drive times, and grumpy guests. Definitely remind people to leave early and plan for traffic if they're driving.
BENEFIT: If you're having a destination wedding, most out of town guests don't care what day of the week the wedding is, especially if they're planning a weeklong vacation in Hawaii. Traveling over a period of just weekdays (for example a Monday - Thursday) will often offer cheaper airfare and hotels.
DOWNSIDE: If your guests are local, there's a good chance that people will need to (1) leave work early to attend your wedding and (2) work the next day. This results in an earlier night (less dancing, less drinking).
BENEFIT: A lot of venues offer lower venue rates for weekday weddings (Mondays-Thursdays) and some hotels offer lower food and beverage minimums. This is helpful if you're trying to keep your wedding costs down.
At the end of the day, the guests who really want to be there will make it there, regardless of the day of the week. Pick the day that works best for you, and enjoy the process. (FUN FACT: I got married on a Thursday!)
