The Essential Guide to Wedding Guest Etiquette
You're invited to a wedding... congrats! We know you're excited, but before you send in your RSVP, keep reading to see how to be the best wedding guest EVER.
BE ON TIME. This is a personal pet peeve of mine, and important in so many ways. RSVP on time, show up to the ceremony on time, and at the end of the night... leave on time! Being a good wedding guest means knowing when to start (and end) the party.
COME AS YOU ARE. If only your name is on the invite, plan to attend the wedding solo. If you are allowed a plus one, follow that rule and bring just one person. It's NEVER OK to ask to bring anyone not specifically on your invitation.
BRING A GIFT. Cash, Venmo, whatever you want. More and more couples are hoping for cash vs gifts so ask around before heading to the mall. PRO TIP: If the couple has a registry, purchase something and send it straight to their house!
SHARE THE LOVE. Say your hellos, exchange hugs and kisses, then step away. Allow the couple time with each and every one of their guests (and also give them time to sit down for a minute to eat and breathe). It's been a big day for them!
DRINK RESPONSIBLY. No one likes a sloppy drunk, and there's nothing worse than drinking too much, and doing something embarrassing at a wedding. (Trust us, we know...) Drink responsibly, and make a plan to get home safely.
The most important thing to remember is that the couple wants you to have a fun, memorable experience. For the sake of the couple, plan to be the best wedding guest ever! Let’s chat - tell me about a memorable experience you had at a wedding.
