Real Life Wedding :: Le-Ann & Russell - March 26, 2014

June 11, 2014

It’s true what they say… love knows no distance! 4,000 miles away from their home in Georgia, bride Le-Ann and groom Russell planned an intimate March wedding at the impeccable Halekulani Hotel. With a little over 20 of their closest family and friends in tow and some of the best vendors on board, their wedding was an affair not to be missed!

The Wedding Cafe (TWC): We’re dying to know how your love story began… how did you two meet?
Le-Ann (L) + Russell (R): “We actually met in high school. We were introduced during my (Le-Ann’s) sophomore year by a mutual friend. Over the years, we became close friends and it wasn’t until Russell was injured in a motorcycle accident many years later that I realized there was always something more. And the rest is history....”

TWC: And of course… the proposal!
L: “A few years ago, we were vacationing in Hawaii. We had been several times in the past, and we were always fond of watching sunsets at China wall. I had a feeling that Russell was going to propose on this specific trip, but the days went by with no proposal. On the very last day, he asked me if I wanted to check out one last sunset before we had to catch our flight home. It was a long day, and I didn't really feel like doing anything but thankfully he convinced me. While watching the sunset he knelt down to dig around in one of the tide pools while I was watching the sunset. He said to me, "Hey, check out this rock". I looked down, and saw him holding the ring… of course, I said yes!”

TWC: What inspired you to have a destination wedding in Hawaii?
L: “We’re both children of Navy families and have lived in a few places, including Guam, California, and Florida. Russell's Mom moved to Hawaii back in the nineties, and he had been going there for family visits for years. Once we got together, we started vacationing Hawaii enough to consider it our second home. It just felt right to get married in a place that we both love so much.”

TWC: Tell us about your experience with Halekulani Hotel… what’d you LOVE about them?
L+R: “We received phenomenal service and accommodations from the Halekulani Hotel. The staff was extremely kind to us and always made us feel special. This will be our ‘go to’ hotel next time we stay in Waikiki.”

TWC: Tell us about your experience with Les Saisons… your linens added so much elegance to the reception.
L+R: “Les Saisons was a last minute add on for us but we truly, truly appreciated the service they were able to provide. They were excellent to work with and really added the pretty touches that we were looking for with the lace runner and beautiful linen.”

TWC: Tell us about your experience with Passion Roots… your florals were stunning!
L: “The arrangements that we received from Passion Roots were just as beautiful as we thought they would be. We didn’t know much about floral arrangements but they happily educated us on what we needed and also made some very thoughtful recommendations. We decided on a hand-tied natural bouquet consisting of stunning football mums, finger dusty miller and an assortment of roses for my bouquet, a matching boutonniere for Russell and some vintage decor for the ceremony and reception and loved it all!”

L+R: “Again.. WOW! The same day edit video was AMAZING! Julian and 10th Letter Media completely exceeded our expectations. I can’t think of a better way for us to have captured the feeling and energy of the wedding. We also appreciated how well Julian and Mike worked together. They complemented each other well in their modern approach to photo and video.”

TWC: What was the most memorable part of your wedding?
L+R: “The photo shoot was one of the high points for sure! It was just the two us and we had so much fun running around downtown Honolulu from location to location. The rest of the day was truly spectacular, but the photo shoot marked the moment when we both realized that we were actually getting married.”

TWC: Were there any specific details that were must haves on your wedding day?
L+R: “It's hard to pinpoint any specific details that were must haves. Everything seemed to be just right. Our great friends and family, the suit, the dress, the planning staff, vendors… everything played an essential part in the overall orchestration.”
